I primarily seem to talk about beauty & makeup products on this blog, but every now and then I like to inject a bit of lifestyle or DIY into the mix. I love makeup, but beyond the cosmetics collection there is a big old world out there waiting to be discovered! I’ve been reading quite a few lifestyle/DIY magazines lately & I thought I’d share 4 that I think are great.
The Simple Things
This magazine is a great all-rounder magazine. It covers travel, DIY, lifestyle, baking, growing and just general LIVING. It gives me the urge to stop and smell the roses a bit more by encouraging trips to local markets, growing your own food, re-using old household items etc. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m growing up a bit and my tastes have changed, but I’d take this over Vogue any day! It’s really easy to read and because it has a bit of everything I can page through it for hours. I think I’ve read this issue front to back about 12 times already.
Definitely getting a subscription to this one! www.thesimplethings.com
Here’s a quarterly baking book brought to you by the same team of geniuses behind Mollie Makes (another one of my favourites). If you (or someone you know) loves to bake or loves to flick through pages of gorgeous baked goods, this is for you (or them)! Let’s be honest, I’m probably never going to bake lavender cookies, but I sure love reading about it! They look like a work of art, don’t they? I’m pretty sure the photo below is of the 2nd issue, but the 3rd issue is available now. www.facebook.com/sweetcakebakemake
I’ve vocalised my love for cross-stitching before, but for those of you who didn’t know this about me-I used to be the captain of my school’s cross-stitching club. Big claim to fame, folks! Anyway, it’s a fun little craft that I enjoy doing from time to time & this magazine is great because it includes full-sized patterns and very modern takes on what some people think is an old person craft! I’ve tried to knit (failed), tried to learn origami (failed), but cross-stitching I can do!
I’m pretty sure this was a one-off, but if you’re interested you can buy it here!
Made in Paper
Stationary, wrapping paper, notebooks, oh my! Seriously though. I love paper & this is an entire magazine dedicated to beautiful paper and paper crafts. There are some really creative DIY ideas for dinner parties as well as cute accessories for baked goods. Great magazine! This was another one-off magazine, but you can buy a digital copy via the app store for £7.99.
I hope you enjoyed hearing about some of my favourite “life” magazines!
Just writing about it has inspired me to do some baking, gardening and cross-stitching!
What are your favourite magazines (unrelated to beauty)?
