I’m not one to do anything crazy on my birthday and I was SO looking forward to having a laid back, leisurely day. We woke up at our usual time of 7:30 AM…(seriously..did I turn 70 years old?) and casually made our way over to Borough Market. This was my first time at the market on a Saturday and it was really bustling! It’s mostly a food market, which was a nice change from our usual furniture/second hand object ones. I was hoping they’d have a nice big selection of flowers, but unfortunately there were none! I did however get a container of some delicious olives that are long gone.
Around lunch time we had a very overpriced, but delicious Salt Beef Bagel with some Earl Grey Iced Tea which was amazing! Are you wondering what that big brick of melting cheese is? I’d never seen anything like it, but Aslan told me it was called Raclette. According to Wikipedia, it’s a Swiss dish based on heating the cheese and scraping it off. *salivates* They were putting the melted cheese on top of a potato and I can honestly say that I haven’t stopped thinking about it!
Of course I needed to find some sort of birthday dessert, so when we turned the corner and saw those macaroons my jaw dropped. I don’t even like macarons that much to be honest, but it looked like a work of art. We ended up getting two pieces of chocolate cake instead!
We continued having a leisurely day strolling around London and then went to see a movie.
All in all, it was a wonderful day!
What do you usually do on your birthday?
Do you party like it’s 1999 or take it easy?
