Before I start rambling on and on about lip crayons can we all just take a moment to appreciate my fantastic photoshop skills? You’ll be surprised to know that this crayon addition took me the better part of 2 hours…I may need a lesson or two.
Anyway, I came here to talk about about a rather serious addiction. An addiction to lip crayons. That’s right folks! I am completely and utterly obsessed with lip crayons (as are most people) and it can be quite hard to navigate around the sea of them filling the shops these days. Word on the street is that Clinique started this crazy trend with their Chubby Sticks (which are amazing products), but the drugstore brands caught on fast and offered some fabulous alternatives to higher end products. With the exception of the Tarte Matte Lip Surgence all of my favourites are available at the drugstore so let’s get a bit more specific…
Tarte Matte LipSurgence Crayon “Lively”-$24.00
Tarte is one of my all-time favourite brands (PLEASE COME TO THE UK SO I CAN BUY ALL OF THE STUFF) and every time I go home to Canada I stalk their products like nobody’s business. I was a bit torn on whether or not to spend the extra cash on a lip crayon when I know the drugstore does them so well, but what really drew me in was the fact that it was matte. I’m not sure how they managed to make a matte lip product so smooth and easy to apply, but this formula is perfection. It’s very long wearing, extremely pigmented and I’ll definitely be getting more of these in the future.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain “Honey”-£7.99
Arguably the most wearable shades out of all of my lip crayons, Honey is the shade I tend to go for…when I don’t know what to go for! It’s a very muted down rosey colour that adds a little something to your makeup look without drawing attention away from a smokey eye or bright blush. Love this one and I have a feeling I might use up the entire thing very soon…
Bourjois Colour Boost “Red Sunrise”-£7.99
The Bourjois lip crayons are great because they are so glossy! I’ve recently come around to glossy lips, but sometimes lip glosses can be very sticky and impractical on a windy day. These give you the shine you’re seeking without the sticky texture. They smell like candy and sunscreen, so it’s a nice nostalgic scent and I can’t get enough of them. Might I also recommend Peach on the Beach?
Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick “Raplumsel”-£8.00
The Soap & Glory lip crayons are like the perfect mix between the more dry textured Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains and the glossy Bourjois Colour Boosts. If you’re looking for an in-between that doesn’t swing too much either way these are for you. This shade in particular is amazing for Autumn/Winter.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain “Rendezvous”-£8.00
Although orange shades are technically more of a summer thing, I tend to wear this one no matter what time of year. I’m not sure if it’s the natural shade of my lips, but this shade tends to pull a bit red on me which is probably why I think it’s so wearable. Much like Honey, it’s got a more dry consistency and lasts about 3 hours on me before it starts to go a bit patchy. I tend to slap on another layer around the 2-3 hour mark and I’m good to go.
Hope it was helpful for you to see my top picks!
