So for this month’s #ButtonsBookshelf, I’ve been reading How To Be Bad which is a great coming-of-age book! A little synopsis of the book is that it’s based on three girls, Jesse, Vicks and Mel who all work in the same waffle house in Florida and their journey on a road trip which all changes them in different ways. As for the characters, they are all polar opposites with Jesse being strictly religious and a quiet girl, who still feels the need to be bad while she is young; Vicks is the wild child and very confident in herself, whose boyfriend has recently moved to Miami for university and hasn’t spoke to her since moving and Mel, the new girl in town who is fairly wealthy compared to the other girls, but she’s so lonely and wants to be friends with the other girls.

The main theme I noticed throughout the book is how lost all the girls feel and how much I can relate to that from when I was younger. Jesse isn’t sure what to do with her mum just finding a lump in her breast, feeling like she needs to be the good girl all the time but still wants to be adventurous. Throughout the books, Vicks is always confident with herself but deep down, she’s unsure of herself and in emotional turmoil due to Brady not messaging her since going to university. Mel just desperately wants to be liked by these girls and be friends with them. The feeling I get is that Mel is an outsider in both her family and friends, with her being one of the youngest, she always has to take sides against people in her house. As for her friends, she is completely different to Jesse and Vicks, wearing $400 jeans but still working in the Waffle House, something she doesn’t need to do but choose to do against her parents wishes.

Throughout the book, each chapter is written from the point of view from each of the three main different characters, as well as the book being split into different dates as the road trip happens. While reading it, you are able to notice the different writing styles for each different character, which is mirrored well as each character has been designed by three different authors. Being the first book I had read which had been co-written by three different authors, I was amazed that this was an option, especially the way they had decided to write it. Explained at the back of the book, E. Lockhart, Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski met on Myspace in 2006 before coming together on the idea of this book. It was decided that the book was going to be written chapter by chapter and simply passing the book between each other once their chapter was over. Hence the three different characters, all relating to the writers in some way but also their different writing styles.

Out of the three girls, my favourite character was Mel, the quiet one who still had a lot to say. It’s not until her chapters come along that you figure out what goes on in her mind. Through the other girls chapters, she doesn’t say much and if she does, she is simply agreeing with them and going along for the ride. Within her own chapters, she talks about her family life, how she’s often feeling left out, how she wants to be liked, her insecurities and her own thoughts. It’s this side of her which I can relate to the most, as growing up I was never the most popular girl, I had a few friends but ultimately, I always felt out.

If you’re looking for a nice read for the summer, this is the one. It will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, through friendships, bring you back to your teen years and I was able to relate to it in more ways than one.

As you all know, I started #buttonsbookshelf in an effort to read more throughout the year. I’ve already read more books in the past 6 months since starting the club than I did last year! I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading along with me and while I won’t be continuing to do this club I hope it’s encouraged a lot of you to read more! I’m going to be talking about my book recommendations in favourites etc. so don’t feel sad! Plenty more book talk to come!

As this is possibly one of my most requested videos, I finally filmed an office tour! After a lot of tidying to film it, I am super happy at the outcome of the video and how much people have been loving it too. With my office, I try to keep it tidy and simple as I spend most days working and editing in there, but also an environment where I enjoy spending time in. So here it is, a tour of my office!

Throughout the video I’m talking about emotions, making people’s day, how happy seeing Reggie makes me feel and friends. It’s nice to be nice and it’s a video all about spreading positivity too. What are some of your favourite feelings?

It’s not often that I’ll head out for breakfast, but when I do, I prefer to explore restaurants I haven’t been to before. That’s how I ended up at Andina one morning for breakfast before a day of shopping. With it located right in the middle of Shoreditch at the top of Redchurch Street, Andina offers Peruvian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although I didn’t go for another particularly exotic, it was a damn good avocado on sourdough toast. After figuring out how I like my eggs (over easy FYI), we both ordered avocado on sourdough toast with the Ekeko juice made out of carrot, melon, pear, macs and ginger. It was delicious, I’m definitely going to return here for dinner one evening as the menu looked amazing.

As you can see from the title, I have been doing #VLUNE again this year! Although I’m not vlogging every day, I’m vlogging most days and uploading throughout the week. I absolutely love vlogging so I’m really excited to share all the #VLUNE videos. With a trip to Berlin earlier this month, buying a new car, an afternoon in the LUSH Spa and Amelia’s birthday evening, it’s been an exciting month so far!
