Using Less Heat On My Hair

If you dove into the archives of this blog you would see that I used to bleach my hair at home. A LOT. My hair was almost completely white and towards the end of its cycle it was falling out in huge clumps.

Finally about 10 months ago I decided to go to a salon & get my hair dyed closer to my natural color. It was a long process, but I’m finally at a stage where my hair is beginning to feel like “normal” hair. I’ve really been trying to use a lot of hair oils & hair masks but another thing I’ve found helps a lot is to use as little heat as possible!

Of course, there are days when you just NEED to take a straightener to it, but for the most part, I’ve been letting my mane air dry!

Here are some products I’ve been using to combat frizz and make it appear shiny and smooth!

Original Moxie Mane Tame Weightless Frizz Control:

From Original Moxie: “Our lightweight, natural formula, enriched with Fruit Acid and Flax Seed Extract, make this the go-to product for straight and wavy hair.” Mane Tame Weightless Frizz Control kind of does what you’d want a mousse to do without that crunchy, mousse feeling! It’s really lightweight as well which is great for my fine hair!

L’Oréal Mythic Oil:

Absolutely love L’Oréal’s Mythic Oil. When I get out of the shower I run 2-3 pumps of this through the ends of my hair and it makes it feel so soft! Oddly enough I think it actually helps to dry my hair (I doubt it actually is)! This is another product that tames the frizz and makes my hair appear healthier!

Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream:

Amazing smell! I was hesitant about how this would work with my hair. It made my hair feel super soft and didn’t leave my hair feeling crunchy. Overall Moroccanoil’s Curl Defining Cream did help with frizz, but to be honest it didn’t define my waves at all. This might be more suited to someone who has really curly hair as opposed to my barely wavy hair!

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil can be used for so many different things, but what I really like to do is scoop some out, warm it in between my hands and apply it as an all over hair mask. This tube was from Amazon and it was really reasonably priced, but you can also get it at health stores! I also like to use it to tame flyaway hairs and add some much-needed shine!

Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleansing Spray:

This is basically a fancy name for dry shampoo! I’ve only tried one dry shampoo before this and to be honest I’m still not completely sold on the idea! I mean I guess I like the IDEA but I just don’t feel “fresh” if I don’t at least get my hair wet in the shower! The Ojon rub-out dry cleansing spray did a really great job of making it look less greasy and did add a bit of volume! It has a really strong scent that does eventually go away, but it’s not my favorite product from the brand!

For an “Ojon Overview” I wrote a few weeks ago here!

I’ve been trying not to shampoo my hair as much either. I’m trying to limit it to twice a week if possible! Air-drying my hair is a bit time consuming and it isn’t always possible but when I have the time to do it I will!
