IT Cosmetics is known for their cult classic CC creams. Somehow they’re lightweight, easy to apply with full coverage and yet they never look cakey. They’re so good! Aside from their CC cream, IT Cosmetics does great brushes, mascaras and even has a line of skincare. They don’t get a ton of attention aside from the CC cream and they definitely deserve more!
The million dollar question is – is IT Cosmetics cruelty-free?
Yes, IT Cosmetics is cruelty-free! They have a PETA cruelty-free certification and they are not sold in China. If you’re cruelty-free with your makeup routine you can continue to or start to use their iconic CC cream and product line. Unfortunately if you go for vegan makeup, none of IT Cosmetics’ products are vegan.
Here is the statement from their website:
“IT Cosmetics™ is certified by PETA as a 100% cruelty-free brand, and you will find us listed on their website. Remaining a cruelty-free brand is extremely important to us, as it is to so many of you! IT Cosmetics™ has never tested products on animals, nor do we use animal hair in our brushes—and we have absolutely no plans to change that.”
We are so pleased with their statement. It’s direct, to the point and states that even their brushes don’t use animal hair. They’re brushes are amazing so definitely check those out! Bottom line, if you are cruelty-free with your makeup then IT Cosmetics is a brand you can feel good about using.
No, IT Cosmetics is not vegan and none of their products are certified vegan. They use ingredients like snail filtrate, beeswax and such which are not vegan ingredients. Some comparable vegan makeup brands with strong complexion products include: Milk Makeup, Tarte Cosmetics and Cover FX.
No, IT Cosmetics is not organic or natural and they make no claims to be. Their formulas tend to be more skin friendly options with skincare benefits. Their CC creams are free of parabens, phthalates and sulfates. Some organic brands with similar complexion products include Kosas and Lawless Beauty! Sephora has ingredients callouts and breakdowns for their products on their website if you want more information.
IT Cosmetics products are made all over but a majority are made in China, the US and South Korea. They are a US based brand and they are owned by L’Oreal. L’Oreal is not cruelty-free and their products are sold in Mainland China.
No, IT Cosmetics is not sold in China. This is how they are able to remain cruelty-free and hold a PETA certification. There is no brand sold in China that should have a PETA certification. If they do, it’s a mistake! For reference, China does require 3rd party animal testing by law for all products sold in physicals stores there.
Yes, IT Cosmetics is paraben-free! Parabens are a common preservative in cosmetics linked to endocrine disruption. Parabens are any ingredient with -paraben on the ingredient’s list. They can be tricky to find so a pro tip: Sephora has ingredient callouts in the product description page on their website for some products. It’s not there for all products but it will say paraben free and that’s a good way to check.
No, IT Cosmetics does not label any of their products as gluten free. Many brands do this because, while the products may not have gluten, it’s accounting for cross contamination. Cross contamination happens on shared machinery where the products are made. Most brands don’t promise they’re gluten free incase there is trace contamination on the machinery that they can’t account for.
IT Cosmetics CC Cream in the normal, illuminating and matte versions are all phthalate and paraben free! In beauty, phthalates most commonly are fragrance or plasticizers that improve texture. Diethylphthalate is the most popular used in cosmetics. It looks like a majority of their products are phthalate free but the brand has not put out an official statement so we can’t be 100% sure.
The Superhero Mascara and Bye Bye Under Eyes concealer are for sure phthalate and paraben free. Along with all the CC creams.
IT Cosmetics does offer some non-comedogenic products! Their Oil Free Matte CC Cream is non-comedogenic. Along with the Bye Bye Breakout concealer. Non-comedogenic means non-pore clogging so if you have acne prone skin, you may really like these.
Yes, we are happy to report that IT Cosmetics is on PETA’s list of cruelty-free brands. A certification from PETA or Leaping Bunny is always a good thing for cruelty-free brands because it helps to show credibility. It’s so much more than brands just stating they’re cruelty-free.
China’s 3rd party testing is a good example of this. Many brands sell there and try to claim that they’re still cruelty-free since they’re not doing the actual testing. Any testing done on the brand’s behalf by them or a 3rd party is considered animal testing.

They should be a brand you feel good about using and we cannot wait to see what else they have in store!
